The Configuration Management Process Improvement Center's (CMPIC) event brings together select speakers to address Configuration Management in a series of Seminars, Workshops, And Training. CM Trends attracts an international array of both commercial and governmental organizations to discuss latest Configuration Management trends, industry standards, corporate experiences, and specific topics in CM and associated professions. Topics covered include new and updated standards, process improvement, metrics, software CM, automation, change management, and much more! The speakers leading the event include representatives from BAE Systems, Bentley Systems, Boeing, Honda Aircraft, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Northrop Grumman, SAIC, Sikorsky, Vencore and several other elite Configuration Management practitioners.

At Configuration Management's inception, more than 30 years ago, the ideas surrounding the role of CM were quite simple: protect the integrity of the software, and the impact it has on the organization, through the entire software lifecycle. And more than thirty years ago, this was certainly an attainable goal. However, in the modern era, the role of software has changed within the business model. Moreover, the tools used to compose the modern software system has grown not only in complexity but its dependence on factors external to the software owner’s environment. Thirty years ago, most of what was considered “state of the art” was understood by most CIO’s. Unfortunately, that’s simply not pragmatic in the digital economy. So, what is the modern technology executive supposed to do?

Docio®'s CEO, Michael Potts, was invited to join on the main stage to lead a presentation, walking through the differences between how software was built thirty years ago and how management, development, and delivery has evolved through 2017. Using graphics and data, Mike will demonstrate the complexity of modern software and discuss the challenges of the “decentralization of IT" and "distributed application development" faced by most organizations today. Last, Mr. Potts will address the risk inherent in the modern software organization.

This presentation will explore the topics of Software Business Management (SBM) and Software Governance strategies a little further and discuss how Configuration Management can begin to work with the business, not against it. It will outline the topics that need further discussion and, hopefully, challenge the Configuration Management community to continue evolving with the modern, digital world.

About Docio®

DOCIO Software Business Management

Modern technology executives understand software is at the heart of value creation and are already aware of how large the responsibilities of application management are, but also how nearly impossible it has been to make software metrics accessible, contextual, and usable for business-aligned decisions.

As the pioneer in Software Business Management (SBM), Docio® has developed concrete, pre-configured KPIs and leading indicators to break into this "black box", allowing for timely conversations about operational risks and costs, identifying threats or aging dependencies, financially quantify quality and technical debt, and provide tangible understanding for each application's value; reducing an average in costs of 15% - 30% and an increase on average in team effectiveness of 20%. Technology executives are able to see their team's work and business impact in real-time across product management, development, and delivery, and on new projects in just a few clicks.

All this with no coding or data scientists. And, to make it better, Docio® easily integrates into existing IT, software development, and product management environments.
